Hi,

as a real-time audio guy used to alsa and jackd I dislike pulseaudio.
The first time I ever read information related to pulseaudio was within
the last few weeks. However, the starting point is still running

  aplay -l

Although unlikely, I might have a hunch, purely by chance if you post
the output.
