How do I get a realtek wifi dongle to work

Advice I received from a friend who is far more knowledgeable than me
was to simply buy a USB dongle with the AR9271 chip, so just search
eBay for that. I ordered one from China for GBP5.74. It arrived
surprisingly quickly and "Just Worked" with the 22.04 server installer
which did the network config for me putting in the network ID, passcode
etc.

Apparently these don't do 5GHz WiFi but at that price with no screwing
around trying for hours to find drivers I'll take that every time.
