Hi,
Oliver's test scenario requires to test printing with at least one app
installed by a DEB package and at least one other app installed by a
snap. He assumes that Ubuntu users are aware which apps are installed by
a DEB package or by a snap. It's possible to troubleshot the way I
suggested, too and to get the same result, just by another order of the
method of elimination.
By getting rid of snaps and using DEB packages only, a lot of unneeded
extra troubleshooting is no longer required.
At least for testing purpose I would try
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1399383/how-to-install-firefox-as-a-traditional-deb-package-without-snap-in-ubuntu-22
.
If somebody runs into an issue with the pulseaudio sound server I
recommend to test without this additional layer, by using plain ALSA
only.
I dislike pulseaudio, but it's not the reason to recommend to get rid of
pulseaudio for troubleshooting purpose first.
I'm using the jack sound server and if something is fishy I do exactly
the same. I get rid of the jack sound server and test with plain ALSA.
It's reasonable to remove an extra layer and to test without this
additional layer as a first step of troubleshooting. This is how sane
troubleshooting does work, hence in your case, get rid of the snap
container for troubleshooting purpose. You can remove the Firefox DEB
package and reinstall Firefox by a snap again. It's just a sane way to
do troubleshooting by getting rid of complex layers, such as a snap
container 8or such as a sound server etc.).

Ralf
