I've been following this discussion with interest, because I only recently
noticed Firefox was unable to print. It DOES allow "printing" to a PDF
file, so I've been able to work around the problem. (I am not sure, but I
BELIEVE this problem may have "bit" me when I switched to the Beta channel
to make the KeePassXC browser extension work. I was FINALLY able to switch
to the Stable channel a couple of days ago, because Firefox complains
mightily if you try to run older versions with a particular profile, so I
had to wait as the version 107 I was using progressed through "candidate"
to the "stable" channel.)
Based on the discussion here, I followed a link Ralf suggested, to
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1260603
This topic suggested I (1) open the about:support URL in Firefox, (2)
scroll down to the Printing section, and (3) click "Clear saved print
settings."
This did nothing for me, so I looked carefully at the comments, one of
which linked here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1168230/
This topic suggested (1) Open the Software store (2) search for your
application (3) Click the Permissions button, and make sure it's set to
allow Print-Documents.
AHA! Mine has that option turned off, but it turns out there are TWO
options -- I can either choose ":cups-control" or "cups:cups-server."
I don't know which one, but in the link above it suggests the following
command line approach:
$ sudo snap connect firefox:cups-control
Running the above command didn't immediately fix the problem, but choosing
that option in the Software center DID.
I added my answer here
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1260603/
Please let me know if I've gotten something wrong.
SO, for me Firefox printing seems to be working now. KeePassXC's browser
extension has been working for weeks, too. I have every expectation that
eventually the other "rough spots" in snaps will get addressed. Thank you
to all for the fruitful discussion!
