JFTR 21.04 does not provide the proprietary nvidia driver anymore.
The https://packages.ubuntu.com/hirsute/nvidia-340 package for 21.04 is
a transitional package not providing the proprietary nvidia driver, it
provides the xorg nouveau driver instead.
Debian claims that the nvida driver supports "GeForce 8300 [C77],
GeForce 8300 GS [G84], GeForce 8300 GS [G86], GeForce 8300 GS [G98]"
Freedesktop.org claims that the nouveau driver supports "NV86 (G86)
GeForce 8300 GS" and "NVAA (MCP77/MCP78) GeForce 8300 mGPU"
IOW the proprietary driver as well as the FLOSS driver should support
current X11 based Linux installs.
In Nov 2020 it was claimed that GNOME disables Wayland automatically if
nvida is used by

.
