Linux is one of the most amazing and useful projects ever and I shall
be eternally grateful to all of those who contribute to it. They are
all, in my opinion, heroes of modern times. I do a little coding myself
using gcc for special jobs that make my life easier but I do not
understand the workings of the kernel, all the gui stuff and the other
genius things that go on in a distribution. As a reasonably
knowledgeable user, I salute all of those who do.

Occasionally things get altered in ways that make a distribution
unsuitable for me and no doubt others but fortunately there has always
been an alternative that does suit me and my hardware which I expect is
older than most. I suppose the rewriting of systems is a necessary
inconvenience. If a system were ever to be declared finished, don't
need to touch it again, ever, nobody would know how to fix it when
something did eventually go wrong.
