Query about 21.10 release notification

Hello.

In the release notification, is

Ubuntu Desktop 21.10 makes wayland sessions available while using the
Nvidia proprietary driver.
"

What exactly does that mean?

 From memory, in past references to wayland, on this list, it has been 
mentioned as a replacement for xwindows or xorg, or something similar.

Is xwindows still available, and, will xwindows, if it is still 
available, run with nvidia?

I have two computers; the two that I mostly use, that have nvidia 
optimus, that has so far, mostly run okay.

Will they still work with 21.10?
