ubuntu 16.04. Change label extreme portable SSD

That was just the question I was going to ask. 

My orginal plan was to format it to HFS+, but then I thought that 
the advantage of have exfat is that it can be read and written by all
three OS, however I am unsure about the permissions 
so did transfer some 80 GB of data in almost no time, but obtained

rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 23) at main.c(1183) [sender=3.1.1]


So shall I reformat the disk and repeat the transfer??

I am curious to see how much the file system HFS+ itself occupies. In the
case of the 1TB disk exfat occupied some 3 GB which seems a lot.

Also I am not sure which is faster.
