Short-keys to switch workspaces?

That's a good question. I still use Unity, and I use the arrows to
switch, or Win+S for the overview, arrow to the one I want and Enter
to select.
I am not sure there _is_ a direct-jump hotkey. I googled a bunch of
pages and I can't find any mention of it.
But if you install Ubuntu Tweak Tool, you can define your own hotkeys,
and that might let you. By default, Win+N (digit) launches the Nth
icon in the launcher: I often use Win+0, Win+1, Win+2 to run Waterfox,
Chrome and Franz when I log in.
If you don't use those, perhaps you could redefine them? Tweak Tool
also lets you change the number of workspaces -- if you had a 3x3 grid
you could use all the digits...?
