I've studied this page. Two times, "vaio" is mentioned. I've tried
various entries in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and /etc/modules.
Without success.
That Ubuntu Users article (see above) states that there should be
something in /proc/asound/card0, but that isn't the case. It's an empty
directory. It's different in /proc/asound/card1, there is something (is
this that "dummy output"?). It looks like some codec is missing. The
/var/log/dmesg-messages also say there is a codec missig:
