need simple command line utility to read imap or pop3 mail unattended

I used fetchmail for years to get mail from yahoo, a few other domains.
I used Postfix/Dovecot to create my own mail system and then used
Thunderbird for all my email. I had around 2500 emails per day (too
much crap by then :D). Fetchmail I found easier than getmail.
