While 'dist-upgrade' is an option available by apt, it is not mentioned
by its manual page, to avoid confusion of readers, who just want to know
not confusing basics.
[weremouse at moonstudio ~]$ man apt | grep 'Much like apt itself' -A1
Much like apt itself, its manpage is intended as an end user interface and as such only mentions the most used commands and options partly to not duplicate information in multiple
places and partly to avoid overwhelming readers with a cornucopia of options and details.
[weremouse at moonstudio ~]$ sudo apt dist-upgrade
[sudo] password for weremouse:

0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
IOW 'apt' tries to provide, what Bret wants to get. He just wasn't aware
that 'apt' is not 'apt-get'.
