I haven't used it for ages either, but I used it before getting 
accustomed to Vi.

I use Nano (Pico) all the time because I use Alpine.

But I still don't prefer to use it in the regular console for some 
reason. As a consequence, I just only use Vim, but this is not doable 
for new users.

Still I feel like advocating Joe, because it takes me back to my roots 
:p. I mean it's how I started. It was my very first text editor in 
Linux.

Maybe it's a bit arcane but I still think it was nice.




The trouble with Vim is that if you say anything bad about it on the 
user list, you get chastised ;-).

As a result there is not much room for improvement with these people, 
because they already think it is perfect ;-).

Whereas usually "having ideas" starts with "pointing out what's bad 
about it" or at least recognising these issues (and being able to talk 
about it also).
