Thanks Colin,
I've reseated the ram and attempted to get the case apart. I considered disconnecting the wireless card (that's not as difficult as getting the case apart) but I need Windows so that I can get map updates for my Gamin navigator. I've made an executive decision, I'm returning the laptop to the vendor. Just for interests sake I'll check if the problem persists first thing in the morning when it's cold.
