I have had a laptop wherein booting Ubuntu at one point managed to fuck
up the wireless so badly that I needed to boot Windows or vice versa to
get it right again.

There is apparently something persistent in these chips that needs to be
set by a driver, but the Linux driver may not do it.

At one point I believe I lost wifi in Windows unless I booted Linux
(again). Without having booted Linux in the first place this would never
have happened.

The wireless controller was the Intel WiFi Link 5100.

Regards.
