It varies between the T4xx models and it depends on the types of
drives. I have a T430 and a T470.  I *think* the T430 will only take
one drive.  The T470 can take two drives but only if the SSD is an M2
2042 (quite rare).

I think therefore you probably can't get two drives in your T420
though you need to do a bit of research to be sure.
