Upfrading from Ubuntu 14.03 to Ubuntu 16.0

I am writing this from one of my crashed boxes. I reinstalled Ubuntu 
14.04 from my original sourec disk. I am gradually restoring the home 
directory from the backup.

I found that Thunderbird created a new file when I started it. I shut it 
down without setting a user. I then copied the Thunderbird file from the 
backup and renamed to be the same as the one Thunderbird created at 
startup. All my emails and addresses are now available.

I would like to thanl every one for their interest and help.

My next task is to get the Virtual machines working.

I will let you know how this progresses.
