14.04 with HWE kernel on SecureBoot et. al.

Really?  It should do - I just booted

successfully in UEFI mode, admittedly under emulation.

Right, it needs to be able to use interfaces that aren't available in
BIOS mode.

The desktop installer doesn't support software RAID, and d-i isn't on
those images.  A server image or netboot are the easiest ways to do it.
