File server and file systems

I'm rebuilding my home file server, and I'm looking for some input on
doing it right. The most important data will be on a 3TB mirror, with a
single 6TB disk for media and other stuff. There will also be a backup
disk in another machine, but that's not really relevant.
At first I was thinking of using ZFS for at least the mirror and maybe
for the media disk, but the machine I'm going to use doesn't have ECC
memory, and I'm unsure how big a problem that is. Would I be better off
with mdadm + ext4, or maybe btrfs?
Also, if I decide to go with ZFS after all, how much memory would it
need for a setup like this? The machine has 16GB, but it needs to run a
few other things also. I'm not planning to use deduplication.
On the big disk I don't really need anything in terms of the features
that ZFS and btrfs offers, but on the mirror it could be nice to have
things like snapshots. Some protection against bitrot would also be
nice, even if it is limited due to lack of ECC.
I'm sure many here have a similar setup at home, and if you would share
your experiences I would be really grateful. Any advice on things I
might not have thought of would also be welcome.
