Did you set up something special that does cause something evil after a
third attempt with a wrong password? If so, then you should provide
information about this thingy.

Did the keyboard layout change or is just caps lock activated?

However, you always could systemd-nspawn or chroot into your install
and change the password. Or did you add some special protection that
rules out any access?
