Nullifying requirement to reboot after kernel update

If anyone know the answer to the original question, I would also like
to know. On my VPS provider, I have to change the kernel through a web
interface, so I always get the "System restart required" message.

It is also quite annoying on my personal desktop, when the reminder to
reboot pops up every hour or so.
