list of keyboard layouts

Good evening
I am (as usual) struggling with Linux (Ubuntu).
Now I HAD to install Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit on a Dell Inspiron, to be able
to input Japanese characters.
Since I do not like that Unity thing, I installed the Xubuntu desktop.

When I experimented with Xubuntu -> tuxtrans and Mint, there was a long
list of keyboard layouts to choose from.
Naturally Ubuntu has that list too, .... but ...
the number and types of KBs is different.

In the above mentioned distributions there is a GERMAN (querty) layout.
That is what I need and want.
However in Ubuntu there is only the "normal" GERMAN KB and some variants
I do not use anyway.

Question:
Is there a way / place to download a different list of KB layouts for
Ubuntu?

Thank you.
Thomas
