Well, if nobody else has an idea what to do about the gtk-errors, I 
could still think of two possible alternatives:

1. You could ask LaCie if they would help you with a newer LNA version.

2. In the readme file coming with the downloaded LNA version they claim 
that it was tested with Ubuntu 8.04. Therefore you could install the 32 
bit version of Ubuntu 8.04 in a vertual machine (e.g. virtualbox) and 
try to install LNA on that VM. You can get the iso image for 8.04.4 at 
<http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/>. And if you need to 
install additional packages, you should change the server in 
"/etc/apt/sources.list" from "*.archive.ubuntu.com" to 
"old-releases.ubuntu.com".
