I was so excited this morning to find so many responses after I sent the
pastebin link. My hopefullness faded quickly when I read the emails and
found that people are having a pissing match over how many files are
included on the install DVDs.

Who cares. The downloads and my internet connection are not the cause of
the 6 hour install time, or the 20 minute apt-get update. The problem is
I/O to the hard drives through the motherboard. It appears that something
is not configured correctly in the Bios or that the kernel does not detect
a setting correctly and the result is very slow performing drives. Take a
look at the pastebin and note the result of "time apt-get update". 22
seconds to download the data files, 19 minutes to process them. There is
no internet connection issue.

Please let the argument over Install DVDs die. The goal of sending the
e-mail to seek help was to find someone with the same motherboard,
determine if I have setup the BIOS incorrectly, and to learn something.
Not to argue over the amount of data on the install DVD.

Here is the Paste Bin: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/1561660/

If anyone can see anything of note, please let me know.
