There is no way to downgrade, the same way one does the upgrade.
You'll need to do a fresh install of the older version. You may try
reusing config files, but keep in mind they may have been upgraded and
some may not be compatible with the older versions of software.

10.04 desktop support is ending "as we speak". Repositories should
remain available as 10.04 server will be supported for two more years.
Software packages pertaining to desktop however are not likely to be
updated in the 10.04 repository anymore.

Using contemporary OS version with an alternative desktop would be a
much better option, IMO.
