I don't see why.  All you have to do with your current Ubuntu set-up is 
install kubuntu-desktop (i wouldn't make it the default at the installation, 
just keep what you have) and reboot.  At the normal login window choose KDE 
and you are good to go.  You can install xubuntu-desktop the same way and play 
with each to figure out what you like.  I've not seen any other linux with the 
ease of use and the support that Ubuntu has.  Welll,  ...unless you are 
talking Gnome and then it seems they are working at making it much harder to 
use than anything else with each new "upgrade".  At least getting a better 
desktop and staying with the current release is way better than trying to 
downgrade to previous releases.
