Tools to update exif? Better way to use Shotwell?

Sounds like (if I understnad what you are syaing corectly), that th command
line tool is the perfect solution. Just use a simple shell script to
extract and format the date from the fileame, and call the appropriate
commnad to change the date in the file.
Am I missing something here?
