He didn't comment on top- or bottom-posting.

The opinion that mail should be sent in plain text is one that I share.
I want to read mail in the colours, font-face and size that I find easy
to read, not in whatever combination is favoured by the sender.

I'm not *against* HTML emails, I just don't think the burden of making
sure the email is laid out as the recipient would like to read it
should fall to the sender, especially when the sender doesn't really
know what I'm going to view it in. 

Even ignoring devices with funny screens, different mail clients differ
in their interpretation of HTML by enough to mean that if it needs
typesetting, it's best not put in an email body (which is plain common
sense anyway).

Well, it's an opinion of politeness which is a subject on which its
particularly rare to agree to disagree. Any opinion expressed either
way is likely to be done so forcefully.
