The default for the GUI installer is to install GRUB to sda. But there
is an option to install GRUB to individual partitions. Probably at that
point you can also select a different disk but I nerver installed on a
machine with more than one disk. To avoid any ambiguity of this kind, my
suggestion was to use Virtualbox to install to the only existing disk
which would be the USB stick.
