Yes, unfortunately, I was unable to test on a current Ubuntu install. 
However, reading more posts in that original bug report, I see that 
someone made a rather fascinating discovery.  Whatever system is 
supposed to be auto-mounting the floppies is actually unmounting them, 
when that entry exists in the fstab.  According to that poster, if you 
remove the fstab entry, then you should be able to mount the floppy (the 
long command way.)... not really a good solution overall, but would 
allow a one off like creating a flash bios disk.
