The laptop doesn't allow me to shut off the display (thereby preventing image burn), otherwise I'd simply install Ubuntu Server directly to the hard disk drive. I'm familiar with FreeBSD, (K)Ubuntu, and OpenSUSE as installation environments.

I use VirtualBox. The thing about all these machines is that they form
an "internal network" not easily accessible to your network(s). For
example I can't (or do not know how) to make one of the virtual machines
go out on the internet and/or talk to one of the other machines in my
LAN. This may just be my incompetance but I think one has to create a
special "tunnel" to get the virtual machines talking to other machines
on the LAN or INTERNET.
I've also had problems with the CURSOR situation and think it a bit
clumsy. Part of the problem in this regard may be that the HOST for the
virtual machines I set up was MS Windows. When I get more time away from
the onslaugt of problems I will set up a LINUX VirtualBox HOST.
Have a nice day.
