Keyboard problem (certain keys do not function)

Many. Here is a solution though:

$ sudo apt-get install lock-keys-applet

The right click on your top (or bottom) panel and scroll down to 'Lock
Keys', click it & click 'Add' 'Close'. You'll then have an applet icon
on the panel that will let you know if you have numlock capslock etc
enabled. You can also configure the applet; right click the applet &
select 'Preferences'.
