No, but sometimes laptops can behave a little unexpectedly under
Linux. They have a more "integrated" hardware design than desktops,
with functions that desktops don't (or at least rarely) have, like
embedded numeric pads, the ability to drive 2 screens at once or
switch between internal and external, networking which is not on the
motherboard but on an internal add-in card, as well as all the power
management stuff.
Perhaps it was in numeric keypad editing mode, as opposed to numbers +
arithmetical symbols mode? This is not something that would normally
be accessible but that could be a weird effect of Linux.
