virtualbox3.0 update fails with error "302 moved temporarily"

Because they are different versions (3.0 vs 3.1), 3.1 needs to be
installed directly. Open synaptic, reload your updates, search on
virtualbox, and install 3.1 directly - that will remove 3.0 if you have
room, export your machines, or make a backup of your VMs. Be sure to
update your guest addions to 3.1.4 after you load your VM.
