About programming languaje for ubuntu(linux in general)

for the moment I would like to learn developer desktop application. I have 
agood experience in Php for windows and unix,linux, but I never developer 
desktop application for ubuntu, debian or linux.
I would like to start at least in text mode like installation for red hat, 
that enviroment is mode text, with simple form, like clipers.

step by step.
