Switching a friend to Ubuntu

I install ubuntu

Then I install kde and kubuntu-desktop using synaptic.

Then I have it all, both gnome and kde.

Then I log in to kde.

To edit the kde desktop (and panel) I rightclick on the desktop and 
choose "unlock widgets".

When finished editing kde desktop (and panel) I again rightclick on the 
desktop and choose "lock widgets".

I never touch the icon top right corner of kde desktop.
