Someone else suggested you can backup firefox bookmarks in firefox.
There is also a Firefox addon called Xmarks (formally foxmarks).
However, hit the wrong button in xmarks and screw up your links!

gnome-ppp
System/Administration/Users and Groups
click the keys at the bottom to make changes
click your login to highlight it
click properties and user privileges tab
make sure Use modems is checked, also...
make sure connect to internet using modem is checked

Now this is somewhat confusing. I do not have Connect to wireless and
ethernet networks check, but it works. Better do this another way...

cat /etc/group | grep dial

dialout:x:20:jay

If your current user is not in the group dialout, you will not be able
to dial out.

Make sure your modem (different than mine) has proper group permissions.

jay at my-t60:~$ ls -la /dev/ttyS*
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 4, 64 2010-01-27 09:47 /dev/ttyS0
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 4, 65 2010-01-27 09:47 /dev/ttyS1
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 4, 66 2010-01-27 09:47 /dev/ttyS2
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 4, 67 2010-01-27 09:47 /dev/ttyS3

note: the diff on the device name. I have no ttyMS0, etc.

I hope this makes it to the list. I have been having some problems with
gmail lately.
