Almost successful ;/
Ubuntu finds modem and sends command(s).
Modem does picks up then drops line after ~1 minute.
Did pon followed immediately by plog. When modem dropped line did
another plog. Result was:

Next step, at minimum, modify modem init string to turn on
speaker to monitor whats happening. Need to also check if I've
set option correctly to have modem negotiate connection speed.
