Cursor crazyness in 10.10

Hello, 

I installed 10.10 a couple of months ago and it seems to work pretty
well except for one major annoyance.  I use focus follows mouse in my
window manager and occasionally (and often) moving the mouse cursor to
another window (usually to a terminal from a firefox window) causes the
cursor to start flashing very quickly between the I cursor and the
default arrow.  The keyboard also becomes somewhat non-responsive and I
have to shake the mouse cursor around to stop the flashing from
happening. Eventually it stops.

At first I thought it might have been compiz so I switched to metacity
but the problem still persists. No other changes have been made to my
desktop other than switching window managers; it's a pretty conservative
setup.

Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?
