I think you have to be a bit more bold than that. :¬)

What resolution does your desktop run at?

Mine is 1024x768, so my line in /etc/default/grub says;

GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768

I recommend either using your native resolution, or if you have a
widescreen monitor, the closest available VGA-compatible one. E.g. if
your screen was 1280x768, use 1024x768.
