Lucid Beta 2 doesn't see CD blanks

Karl, please read what I wrote above: the computer is dual-boot with
Mint-8 and I can write CDs, CD-RWs and DVDs perfectly well in Mint.
Unless the hardware fairies put a hex on things while the computer is
booting Lucid and remove it when it is booting Mint, I don't see how it
can possibly be a hardware problem.
