Did you check to see if it's also in /etc/hosts.deny?

You might try restarting networking (sudo /etc/init.d/networking
restart) and/or logging out & then back in. You know:

$ cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost <user>
127.0.1.1 <user>

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts

Check your /etc/resolv.conf. Do you use a dns service that might be
blocking the site (something like opendns), or are you using your isp's
default dns servers (206.192.230.250)?

or qwest.nets

or
DNS (Domain Name Servers): 12.33.21.1 and 12.33.21.2

I doubt those will work as well as it sounds to me like a hosts issue.
You could try creating just a vanilla default /etc/hosts file (rename
your old one to something else).

Agree. But not much else that I can think of just now.
