Server on RAID volume?

New guy here. Well, new to Ubuntu, anyway.

I've installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a couple of client machines, and liked it a lot.
I decided to take the plunge and replace SuSE 11.1 on my home server with
Ubuntu as well.

When I tried, though, the server installer program couldn't see the RAID 10
volume that my present server is installed on. During the process, it noticed
the RAID, and asked me if I wanted to load its ATA RAID driver. I answered
YES, but when we got to the partitioning part, the volume wasn't there.

Do I just need to learn to mumble a different incantation during the
installation, or does Ubuntu simply not install on a RAID 10 volume?

If it will, I'd appreciate any advice. If it won't, I'll need to provide
another partition for / and just use the RAID volume for /home.

Thanks,
