python question?

Just wondering what software ubuntu developers use? What about GUI or
Gnome(GTK2) with python?

I have developed a simple program using Netbeans - note that this
software is in early development, in fact dev has stopped while I
explore other development tools. ref here...

The problem with using automated tools when dealing with databases, if
you want to make changes after the initial program is built and
customized, I find this difficult with tools such as netbeans. A newbie
at this to say the least. But I am unfamiliar with RAD tools in which
you build the gui in one application and the code in the other. This
seems to be the norm in Linux desktop application design.

I realize that developing in C++ or Python may take longer than
Netbeans, but I believe in the long run it will make the source more
manageable and I might even be able to understand what's going on. I
have looked at a similar program built with QT Libs using C++ and I am
amazed how small the source code files are!

Now that you have an idea what I want to do, what do you suggest? Since
I could take a trip down memory lane with pascal, I looked at Lazarus
but the fonts are almost unreadable when installed from Ubuntu
repositories and I failed to get the latest version from the site to
install on 8.04.

I also prefer a multi platform rad environment, but this is not etched
in stone. We are currently running 8.04 LTS release and a Linux native
application would be great.
