Logitech USB keyboard fails in Jaunty! - please help

Hi,

This keyboard, Logitech Deluxe 250, works fine in Windows Vista. I see
exact same problem in Debian 5.01 so I am thinking a HAL or kernel
issue?
The keyboard is totally unresponsive and at no time in boot process
does it respond nor do any of the 3 green LED status lights come on as
they normally would. The mouse works fine though.

This is on a fresh Jaunty install:

The system has all updates and upgrades and is current.

I unplugged and plugged in the keyboard (after I booted into Jaunty
using old PS/2 keyboard) and here is what shows up in the log:

I installed the driver from www.hidpoint.com but it didn't work
because my keyboard was not in the list of keyboard models it let you
select :(
