I have just re-read what the guy with the problem said, and not what
others have said, and he is STILL on version 9.04 trying to change the
hostname using $ sudo hostname the-name and we ALL know this works until
you reboot.
So I too want him to open a Terminal and type these things and just
copy the result to a message like this:
First type $ cat /etc/hostname and it looks like
karl at hardy:~$ cat /etc/hostname
hardy
karl at hardy:~$
Then type $cat /etc/hosts and it looks like
karl at hardy:~$ cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 hardy
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
karl at hardy:~$
So please send us what you get.
