problem with hostname

So, I'll assume that you are running standard Ubuntu (Gnome) 9.04. Can
you please post the *actual* hostnames that you are using without
obuscating?

$ cat /etc/hosts
$ cat /etc/hostname

I'm wondering if perhaps you special characters in the hostname that is
causing the issue.
