Cannot run root terminal via main menu

Folks.


I use ASUS U81 Ubuntu 9.04
or
Virtual machine with UBUNTU 9.04 under Virtual Box (3.0)

I observed the following

I cannot run  gnome-terminal in root mode via main menu.

1. I click root terminalme in main menu
2. I observe notification that root terminal has been starting

but no root terminal application

then notification about strting root terminal closed.

In case I run from command line sudo xterm. Root x terminal started with
success. Other program(e.g. Synaptic) that requires root priviledge work
good.
in case i run from command line :
gksu gnome-terminal
I observed the following message:
Failed to contact the GConf daemon; exiting.badger-alex at badger-house-laptop1
:~$

Could you help me in this case?
