On Ubuntu 8.10 the 7.10 version of Kompozer crashes consistently, it's
a known incompatibility in the GTk libraries.  However the 0.8 alpha
versions work well and are being actively pushed towards release. I'm
using a fairly recent build and it's very stable (remember my recent
thread about a tool for building HTML tables - Kompozer is it for me).
