Hi Alan,

Could you post the output of:
dmesg | grep mmc
dmesg | grep sd

and the output of the following command, a few seconds after you 
inserted a card in the reader:
dmesg | tail -20

have you tried if your card works on another system (Windows or your 
camera)?
